The Closing of a College

Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, will close in July 2008 with the intent of reopening in 2012. Antioch is one of my institution's fellow OPAL (Ohio Private Academic Libraries) members. They had already cut library staff (and other staff on campus) but now it seems all library staff and others will be without jobs in a year. Here's hoping they all find employment elsewhere before the year is out.

Read more about it in the Columbus Dispatch and The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Let's hope that they are able to transfer the Library and it's staff to Antioch McGregor, which is also in Yellow Springs.

That is sad - Antioch was always my back-of-my-mind-ideal-jobs: small liberal arts college, and I really like Yellow Springs. I hope they're able to survive this.

Oh, that's too bad. I really like Yellow Springs, it was the one place I didn't purely and deeply loathe during my horrid Dayton summer. And the Antioch campus was so pretty. A little fruity for my tastes, but still pretty. I've never heard of a college actually closing before. I hope things work out for them!
